PTA

Welcome to the 2014-2015 school year! We at the PTA thought it would be helpful to give you a synopsis of the State of the PTA. Although our bank account has been open since the 1950s(!), we are effectively, an organization entering its fifth year of operation. A strong parent organization is the hallmark of any successful school so it is our goal to improve communications and continue building up the PTA to support La Cumbre teachers, students and programs.

La Cumbre PTA’s biggest fundraisers last year were sales of the Axxess book and Jogathon. These will continue this year along with an annual giving letter. Look for the Axxess books in October, the letter in late fall and Jogathon in the spring.

The main recipients of PTA money last year were the Renaissance awards program for academic achievement, the required Accelerated Reader Program and teacher appreciation – each received a small check to help defray some of the money they spend personally in their classrooms. We also covered expenses to get the kiln fixed and contributed to the Healthy Eating program and the 8th grade barbecue and graduation. We would very much like to substantially increase the amounts awarded to these programs and to expand our fundraising abilities to be able to contribute more to causes that benefit all students in the school.

So please, join the PTA. Additional donations are much appreciated. But most of all, we ask you to participate. Come to meetings, become a board member (slots are open), work the Jogathon, sell Axxess books, and contribute your good ideas and talent to the organization, which can only enhance the quality of life on this campus for our kids.
