What are 7th graders learning in Science:

This course covers the Science and Engineering Practices (SEPs), Disciplinary Core Ideas (DCIs) and the Cross-cutting concepts (CCCs) for the California Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) as aligned with the California Preferred Integrated model for grades 6-8. The 7th grade integrated course focuses on topics in Life Science, Physical Science, Earth Science and Engineering through the guiding concept “Natural processes and human activities cause energy to flow and matter to cycle through Earth’s systems”. 

  • We use the stemscopes app (our online curriculum) on the student’s ipads to provide background information that supports their learning as they read and write about science. 

  • We use the simulation technologies, Gizmos and pHet, to expand student learning through realistic simulations that enhance and expand student understanding of the more abstract concepts

  • We use a project based, hands on approach to learning whenever possible and seek to engage students in the real life engineering processes and thinking used in science
